Schenck vs. United States, 1919
Abrams Vs. United States, 1919

Charles Schenck mailed pamphlets to draftees saying that the draft was not necessary and we did not even need the draft. Jacob Abrams wrote pamphlets criticizing of sending troops to Russia, just to fight the communists. Both of them were convicted of violating the Espionage Act.

Many were starting to wonder if their first amendment rights were still in tact. Not many thought it was. There were some people who totally forgot about it. The supreme court upheld the espionage act, stating that in some extreme cases the government can and will limit the freedom of speach.
